Archiving
Limerick
Statement
Neva Elliott was on residency for six weeks from the 17th October
to the 25th November 2006 in Limerick city to devote her time exclusively
to participating in and researching the activities of local groups
and to form a personal snap shot of Limerick society.
Neva
was based in a mobile, temporary studio space that she has specifically
designed to allow her to work in different environments. The studio
was based for one week in the Limerick City Library and five weeks
in the permanent collection room of theLimerick City Gallery of
Art.
From
this base Elliott participated in over twenty different community
and social groups from sports to arts, specialist interest, hobby
and social activities.
The
by-product of this process was documentation and ephemera, which
was housed in the temporary studio structure and an online web log
of her experience.
Her
timetable over the weeks was generated by those who she met and
through casual or intentional communications and networks.
Archiving
Limerick is a commentary on the diversity of human interests and
interaction.
